SYMBICORT TURBUHALER is indicated for:

  • The treatment of asthma in patients 12 years and older with reversible obstructive airways disease.

SYMBICORT 200 TURBUHALER and SYMBICORT FORTE TURBUHALER are indicated for:

  • The maintenance treatment of moderate to severe COPD including chronic bronchitis and emphysema in patients with persistent symptoms and a history of exacerbations, where the use of a combination product is considered appropriate.

  • Contraindications in patients with hypersensitivity to inhaled lactose.
  • The most serious warnings and precautions regarding risk of serious asthma-related events (hospitalizations, intubations, death), asthma reliever medication, excessive use, use in adolescents, systemic effects of corticosteroids, and treatment cessation.
  • Other relevant warnings and precautions regarding treatment cessation; cardiovascular effects; candidiasis; hyperglycemia, hypokalemia; enhanced effect of corticosteroids on patients with hypothyroidism and cirrhosis; adrenal insufficiency in asthma patients transferred from systemic steroid; decreased bone mineral density; systemic eosinophilic conditions (in rare cases); susceptibility or decreased resistance to infection; glaucoma, increased intraocular pressure and cataracts; increased risk of pneumonia and risk of lung infection in patients with COPD; paradoxical bronchospasm; potential risk during pregnancy, labour, delivery or nursing; patients <12 years of age (asthma) and <18 years of age (COPD) (not recommended); patients >65 years of age with concomitant cardiovascular disease (use special caution); monitoring control of asthma; periodical assessment of HPA-axis function and hematological status.
  • Conditions of clinical use, adverse reactions, drug interactions, and dosing.
  • Risks related to reproductive health, including teratogenic risk

In Canada, SYMBICORT 200 TURBUHALER and SYMBICORT FORTE TURBUHALER are indicated for2

The maintenance treatment of moderate to severe COPD including chronic bronchitis and emphysema in patients with persistent symptoms and a history of exacerbations, where the use of a combination product is considered appropriate.

CTS guidelines recommend PRN budesonide/formoterol as a reliever option for adults and children ≥12 years of age3

  • PRN budesonide/formoterol is a recommended option for individuals with mild asthma not controlled on PRN SABA who have poor adherence to daily ICS despite substantial asthma education and support.
  • PRN budesonide/formoterol in combination with low-moderate dose budesonide/formoterol maintenance therapy can be an option for individuals with moderate asthma.
